What happens if I cancel an event?
Cancel from the event's action menu on your organizer platform. Everyone who bought a ticket is refunded automatically, and you don't need to process anything yourself.
What attendees get back
The ticket price and any service fee they paid us. We return our fee on a cancellation because an attendee shouldn't be out of pocket for an event that didn't happen.
The payment processing fee is the exception. The processor keeps it when a charge is reversed, so it doesn't come back to anyone.
What it costs you
Refunds come out of your balance. If you've already withdrawn the money from those sales, you'll owe it back, and we'll recover it from your balance as it builds or contact you directly.
This is worth understanding before you cancel rather than after, particularly if you've withdrawn and spent the takings on deposits.
Tell people yourself, too
An automatic refund is not the same as an explanation. Message your ticket holders and say what happened, especially if you're planning to run the event later.
People forgive a cancellation. They don't forgive finding out from their bank statement.
Postponing instead
If you have a new date, change the date rather than canceling. Tickets stay valid, attendees keep their QR codes, and nobody has to buy again.
Anyone who can't make the new date can request a refund, and that goes through your published refund policy like any other request.
Repeated cancellations
Canceling occasionally is part of running events. A pattern of it is different, and it affects whether people trust your listings and whether we keep you selling here.
If you're canceling for a reason you'd rather explain
Email support@gaytherings.com before you do it. A venue that fell through, an act that dropped out, a permit that didn't come through: there may be options better than canceling, and it's worth ten minutes to find out.
