How do I report an event or an organizer?

Every event page and every organizer profile has a report link at the bottom. Tap it, tell us what's wrong, and it comes to our team.

What to report

Anything that doesn't belong: a listing that's misleading about what the event actually is, content that breaks our event guidelines, an event that looks like a scam, an organizer impersonating someone, or hate and harassment aimed at any part of our community.

If you're not sure whether something crosses a line, report it anyway. Sorting that out is our job, not yours.

What happens next

A real person reviews it. Depending on what we find, an event can be edited, hidden, or removed, and an organizer can lose access to the platform.

Reports go to our trust and safety team, not to the organizer. They don't see who reported them.

We won't always be able to tell you the outcome, since what happens to someone else's account isn't ours to share. That doesn't mean nothing happened.

Something that happened at an event

Behavior at an event is first a matter for the organizer and the venue, who are there and can act on it. Report it to us as well if it involves the organizer, or if you think other people are at risk.

If someone is in danger

Call your local emergency services. We're a ticketing platform, we can't respond in real time, and an urgent situation needs someone who can get there.

For organizers: payments and payouts

Accepted Answer

Money from ticket sales becomes available 24 hours after your event ends. From there you can withdraw it whenever you like, or leave it and it comes to you automatically.

Why we hold funds until after the event

We're the merchant of record, which means we carry responsibility for the tickets sold and for fraud. Holding funds until the event has happened is what lets us stand behind attendees when something goes wrong, and it's what makes buying from an organizer nobody's heard of feel safe.

Every ticketing platform does some version of this. It's the cost of attendees trusting a listing enough to buy.

Getting your money

Once funds show as Available, withdraw them any time from Finances. The money lands in the bank account you connected during Stripe verification, on your bank's timeline.

If you don't withdraw, we pay out automatically every Wednesday. Nothing sits there indefinitely.

Before you can be paid at all

Stripe verification has to be complete, with identity details, tax information, and a bank account. Start it well before you go on sale rather than the week of your event, because anything needing a second look takes days rather than minutes.

What comes out

Service fees and payment processing fees, depending on how you set fee handling for the event. If you passed fees to attendees, your take is the full ticket price.

Refunds you issue come out of your balance too, which is one reason funds and payouts are worth watching rather than assuming.

What fees does Gaytherings charge?

Two fees on each order: our service fee, and payment processing. Both are charged per order, not per ticket.

Our service fee

Standard organizers pay 4% plus $1.30 per order. Verified nonprofits pay a flat $1 per order with no percentage. Free events carry no fee at all.

Per order, not per ticket

This is where we come in cheaper than most platforms, and it's not a small difference.

Most ticketing platforms charge their fixed fee on every ticket. Someone buying six tickets to your event pays that fee six times. Here, one order is one fee: six tickets generate a single $1.30, not $6.50.

Groups are how a lot of people come to events. Friends buy together, and on those orders the gap adds up fast, whether it's coming out of your revenue or theirs.

Payment processing

2.9% plus 30¢ per transaction. That goes to the payment processor rather than to us, and it's the standard rate for card payments.

You choose who pays

Set this per event when you create it:

Cover them yourself. Fees come out of your revenue and attendees pay exactly the ticket price.
Pass them to attendees. Fees are added on top and you receive the full ticket price.
Split them. Half each.

The math updates live in the ticket step so you can see the effect before you commit.

Should I dispute a charge with my bank?

Usually not before you've talked to us. Email support@gaytherings.com with the event name and your order number, and we can often sort it out in a day.

What disputing a charge means

It's when you contact your bank or card company and ask them to reverse a payment, rather than asking the seller for a refund. Banks call it a chargeback.

Your bank investigates, and the whole thing takes weeks. During that time the money stays where it is, and the decision at the end is your bank's, not ours.

Why coming to us is usually faster

We can see the order, the organizer's published refund policy, and what actually happened. If an event didn't happen, or something clearly went wrong, we'd rather fix it directly than wait a month for a bank to reach the same conclusion.

It also lands on the organizer

They pay a fee whether the claim succeeds or not, on top of losing the ticket money. For someone running one event on a thin margin, a handful of disputes is the difference between doing it again and not. Gaytherings is small enough that this genuinely matters, and the person on the other end is usually someone from our own community.

None of that is a reason to accept being ripped off. It's a reason to email us first.

When to go to your bank

A charge you don't recognize at all, on a card that isn't yours to authorize, is exactly what disputes exist for. Call your bank.

Why is my event on Gaytherings, and how do I claim it?

If you're seeing an event you organized on Gaytherings and you didn't post it, here's what's going on.

Why it's here

We aggregate LGBTQIA+ event listings from public sources so people can find them in one place. Your community is already looking here, and an event people can't find is an event people don't attend.

Your content is yours

We want to be unambiguous about this. We don't own your imagery, your descriptions, or anything else you've made. We don't license it, claim rights over it, or pretend it came from us. All of it stays yours.

A listing is a signpost pointing at your event. We're helping people find you, not taking anything from you.

What claiming gets you

Control, accuracy, and reach.

When we build a listing from a public source, our team is working with whatever that source says. If it doesn't spell out what kind of event it is or who it's for, we make our best guess. Sometimes we get it right. Sometimes a party for one part of our community gets filed somewhere close but not quite.

Claiming ends the guessing. You set the categories, the tags, the community focus, the description, and everything else that decides who finds it. Nobody knows who your event is for better than you do.

A claimed event also reaches further. Listings under a registered organizer account rank better, because we know who's behind them and we can be confident the details are current. That's the difference between a listing that exists and a listing that fills a

What fees will I pay?

The price on the event page is the price you pay. Fees are already in it, and nothing gets added at the last step.

Where the money goes

Two fees can sit on top of the ticket price. A service fee, which is ours, and a payment processing fee, which goes to the company that handles the card transaction.

Both are per order, not per ticket. Buying six tickets in one order means one set of fees, not six.

Sometimes the organizer pays them

Organizers choose how fees are handled for their event. Some pass them to you, some absorb them into the ticket price, some split the difference.

That's why the same ticket price can carry different fees on different events, and it's the organizer's call rather than ours.

Seeing the breakdown

Checkout shows the full breakdown before you pay: ticket price, fees, and total. Tap to expand it if you want the detail.

Free and RSVP events

No fees. Free events have no checkout at all, and RSVP tickets go through checkout at zero.

Fees and refunds

If you get a refund, service fees aren't returned. If an event is canceled, you get the ticket price plus any service fee back, and only the payment processing fee stays behind, because the processor keeps it when a charge is reversed.

Buying somewhere else

Some listings send you to another platform to buy. Their fees apply there, and we have nothing to do with them.
